The NCSSM family gathered virtually on Jan. 23 to rejoice the lifetime of Dr. Kolena, iconic NCSSM physics instructor for 32 years who passed away in late 2020. Students in our residential and online packages characterize a total of 92 North Carolina counties and 361 excessive schools. This summer, nearly 90 rising high school freshmen and sophomores from all through N.C. Residential students returned to NCSSM’s Durham campus in August, the primary time all juniors and seniors have been together on campus since March 2020. On Sept. 15, Chris Sembroski ’97 became the second NCSSM graduate to succeed in area (Christina Koch ’97 was the first) when he rocketed into orbit from Kennedy Space Center. Along with three others, Sembroski rode contained in the SpaceX Resilience capsule secured atop a Falcon 9 Block 5 launch vehicle — on the first all-civilian spaceflight to orbit Earth.

Since its proclamation by UNESCO in 2001, World Science Day for Peace and Development has generated many concrete tasks, programmes and funding for science around the world.
